Fly-tippers face £400 fine in new crackdown
FLYTIPPERS who dump waste in Sefton could face a £400 on-thespot fine. New Government legislation allows local authorities the ability to set the amount for a fixed penalty notice for fly-tipping and Sefton Council has set the fine at £400. In the 2015/16 financial year, Sefton Council spent almost £400,000 clearing and disposing waste left by fly-tippers as well imposing offences. To raise awareness of the new fines, digital ad vans will be out and about in the borough at flytipping hotspots warning people that dumping goods is illegal. Posters and banners will also be springing up at areas known for fly-tipping across Sefton highlighting the new fixed penalty fines.
